Temesgen, 2025
Single Channel Video, 5 minutes

Temesgen (ተመስገን) is the Amharic word for gratitude, used generously in daily exchanges in the deeply religious, fracturing Ethiopia. This work adapts the Amharic script ተመስገን into choreographic form.

Yi Da Y (Oh, my Stones), 2021
Single Channel Video, 8 minutes

Reimagining memory, futurity, and collective identity, this work speculates on the unearthing of sonorous stones that act as conduits for the exchange of memory. Set in the salt flats of East Africa’s Afar region, Yi Da Y blends online found footage, including recontextualized B-reel clips from Beau Travail (1999) with narration from across the African diaspora. The work challenges historical erasures while employing traditonal modes from East Africa - tizita (music said to trigger ones memory) and ginnili (elder-led future forecasting) to envision new possibilities of belonging.
